The area also contains several major development opportunities, including the nationally renowned Old Trafford Regeneration (OTR).
This flagship scheme is set to reshape this iconic part of Greater Manchester and unlock significant economic, cultural, and placemaking potential.
At the heart of the Old Trafford Regeneration is a new 100,000‑seat Manchester United stadium, acting as a major catalyst for wider once‑in‑a‑generation regeneration.
The new stadium will also drive the creation of a vibrant new urban neighbourhood, delivering around 15,000 homes, new community spaces, leisure facilities, and commercial opportunities. It will become one of the largest regeneration projects in the UK.
The Old Trafford Regeneration will be driven by the newly formed Old Trafford Regeneration Mayoral Development Corporation (MDC).
Chaired by Lord Coe as chair designate, whose leadership was central to the London 2012 regeneration and legacy, the board was formally established in January 2026 by the Mayor of Greater Manchester, Andy Burnham.
The MDC is committed to delivering the long‑term transformation of Old Trafford, leading a 15‑year regeneration programme and shaping the area’s growth well into the future.
